Walworth County Jail Roster
The official county route begins with the Walworth County Inmate Search page and then moves to the public Walworth County Inmate Locator. The county says the search can help determine an inmate's status, pending court cases, release information, and bond information. It also gives a key limit: the roster refreshes at regular intervals and is not immediate. A person arrested in Walworth County may not appear while transport, intake, identity checks, fingerprints, or booking steps are still underway.
The locator is a free public web search. Its own notice says the information is not live data, is updated regularly, and is not guaranteed by the Walworth County Sheriff's Office as accurate or complete. That warning matters. A roster match is a custody lead, not a final legal finding. A missing name does not prove that no arrest happened, that the person was released, or that charges were dismissed. When the timing is close to an arrest, search again later or call the jail information line.
Walworth County inmate records on the county roster are local jail records. The roster does not replace the Wisconsin Department of Corrections locator for state prisoners, the Federal Bureau of Prisons locator for sentenced federal inmates, the ICE detainee locator for immigration custody, or Wisconsin Circuit Court Access for filed court cases. No official Walworth County Sheriff mobile app or app-only inmate roster was found in the official source set. The official channels located are the web inmate locator, jail phone line, records request, WCCA/CCAP, Wisconsin DOC, BOP, ICE, and VINELink.
Use Walworth County Inmate Search
Start with a last name. Add first name, gender, or year of birth only when the name is common or the first search returns too many matches. The Walworth County search form does not ask for a full birth date, booking number, or facility dropdown. It asks for a DOB year in yyyy format, and the field is limited to four characters. That design makes a partial-name search useful, but it also means common names should be checked carefully against age, sex, custody date, charge, and court data after a profile is opened.
- Open the county inmate-search landing page, then select the link to view the Walworth County Inmate Search, or go directly to the public locator.
- Enter the last name first. Add the first name when the surname is common or when several people may share similar names.
- Leave Gender set to Unknown for a broad search. Choose Male or Female only when the search needs to be narrowed.
- Enter only the DOB year if known. The field label is DOB (yyyy), so a full date should not be entered.
- Select Search. Use Clear before starting over so old field values do not narrow the next query by mistake.
- Review the Search Results grid. Open or double click a result to view the inmate details and charge information.
- If no record appears after a recent arrest, wait and try again. For urgent custody questions, call Walworth County Jail at 262-741-4400.
Walworth County's roster layout also points users to details by double clicking when viewing charges. When a profile opens, compare the booking status, custody date, release date, charge grid, court date, court branch, and holds. A hold can change the release picture even when a bail or fine amount appears on one charge.
Walworth County Search Fields
The Walworth County Inmate Locator uses a short search form rather than a long booking-record form. None of the inspected field labels said a field was required, so the safest practical method is to start broad and add filters only when needed. The DOB field is year-only, and the gender menu defaults to Unknown. No official wildcard rule, minimum-character rule, or booking-number search field was located in the public form.
The official Walworth County Inmate Locator shows the search fields that drive the roster lookup.
The screenshot matches the field table below: last name, first name, gender, and DOB year are the practical starting points.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Unspecified | Search by surname; no official wildcard or minimum-character instruction was located. |
| First Name | Text | Unspecified | Optional narrowing field, useful when the last name returns several results. |
| Gender | Dropdown | Unspecified | Options shown are Unknown, Male, and Female, with Unknown as the default. |
| DOB (yyyy) | Text | Unspecified | Four-character maximum; enter the birth year only, not a full birth date. |
| Search | Button | n/a | Runs the roster search using the fields entered. |
| Clear | Button | n/a | Clears the current form values before a new search. |
Search results appear in a grid below the form. The public page inventory identifies fields tied to names, booking numbers, CJIS or SPN numbers, DOB, physical descriptors, facility, cell location, custody dates, release eligibility, court dates, court branch information, charges, and holds. Those fields may not all appear for every person, and the county's non-live-data notice should be kept in mind when using the roster for time-sensitive decisions.
Walworth County Profile Fields
A Walworth County inmate profile is more than a name match. The public layout includes an inmate image area, a link labeled to view the image, physical-description rows, custody fields, and charge grids. The field labels are visible from the public layout without relying on a reproduced personal record. Use the profile as a snapshot of jail custody and then check court, DOC, or federal systems when the question moves beyond local jail status.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Full Name / Inmate Name | Name selected from the search-result grid, including available name components. |
| Booking # / SPN # | Local jail booking and system-person identifiers that differ from a DOC number. |
| DOB / Sex-Age / Race | Identity and demographic fields when populated in the public profile. |
| Height / Weight / Hair / Eye | Physical-description fields displayed in the inmate details panel. |
| Inmate Image | Booking-photo area with a separate image-view link when available. |
| Facility / Cell Location | Local jail facility or housing-location field if populated. |
| Bail/Fine Amount | Bond, bail, or fine summary, with more detail possible in the charge grid. |
| Custody / Release Date | Date taken into custody and release-date field when applicable. |
| Booking Status | Roster status for the person's current booking record. |
| Court Date / Branch | Court date and branch information shown in profile and charge data. |
| Charges | Case number, charge, description, severity, bail amount/type, court date, and branch fields. |
| Holds | Hold reason and agency if another matter affects release. |
Several terms can be easy to mix up. A booking is the jail intake event that creates a local custody record. A hold is another agency, court, warrant, probation or parole, federal, or immigration reason that may prevent release. A detainer is a request or notice from another authority. Huber means a Wisconsin work-release or jail-employment privilege. WCCA/CCAP is the Wisconsin court-record search system, not the jail roster.
Finding County, State, and Federal Inmates
Walworth County Jail is a county detention facility. It holds people after local arrests, people awaiting bond or court, sentenced county inmates, Huber or work-release inmates, and people held for other agencies when accepted. A person who receives a state-prison sentence leaves that county-jail system and must be searched through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections offender locator. DOC records use DOC identifiers and state custody status, not Walworth County booking numbers.
No Wisconsin DOC adult prison was identified in Walworth County through the official adult-facility list. That does not mean a Walworth case cannot become a state prison case. It means the person will be in the DOC system after transfer, and the county jail roster may no longer be the active custody source. Wisconsin victim-notification resources also point users to DOC NOTIS and VINELink for custody-status notifications where the relevant agency feed supports registration.
Federal and immigration custody have separate search paths. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers people in BOP custody, generally sentenced federal inmates from 1982 forward. Federal pretrial detainees may be held under U.S. Marshals Service arrangements before BOP commitment and may not appear in the BOP locator. Immigration detention is searched through the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. ICE custody should not be treated as a Walworth County roster function unless the person is physically held at the jail and the jail can legally confirm that fact.
- Use the Walworth County Inmate Locator for current county-jail custody and recent bookings.
- Use WCCA/CCAP for filed court cases, court dates, and case disposition after arrest.
- Use the Wisconsin DOC locator for people sentenced to DOC custody or housed in a DOC facility.
- Use the BOP locator for sentenced federal prisoners, not ordinary county bookings.
- Use ICE ODLS for immigration detention and confirm visit rules through ICE or the listed facility.
Walworth County Jail Contact
The facility map for this project identifies one detention facility in Walworth County: Walworth County Jail. It is operated by the Walworth County Sheriff's Office at the county complex in Elkhorn. The county Corrections page says the current jail opened in November 1995 as a 398-bed facility, and a 2003 addition increased bed space to 512 beds. The jail holds male and female inmates in direct-supervision housing units and handles traffic and criminal custody, bond and bail holds, sentenced county terms, and Huber/work-release functions.

Use the jail phone number for urgent custody questions, especially when a booking may still be in process. For accessibility needs, public entrance questions, or lobby-video availability, call before traveling. The official jail pages did not publish a separate state prison, federal prison, or ICE detention center inside Walworth County.
Walworth County Booking Process
A new Walworth County booking begins after an arrest, warrant, court order, or scheduled report date creates a custody obligation. The person is transported or reports to the jail, identity and case information are checked, property is handled, and fingerprints are taken. The official reporting-to-jail materials say a person reporting to jail will be fingerprinted and processed whether it is a first time or not. A booking photo may be taken as part of jail procedure, and the public roster layout includes an inmate-image field when an image is available.
Intake also includes medical and medication screening. Walworth County materials say health care is available at the jail through Southern Health Partners, and prescriptions must be current and verified before they are administered. People reporting for Huber or work release must follow extra rules, including arriving at the scheduled time and meeting the alcohol and controlled-substance requirement in the official reporting instructions. The reporting PDF says to allow at least 2 to 3 hours for processing after arrival.
The roster appears after the booking data is complete enough to publish and after the system refreshes. That is why a new arrest may not show right away. Booking charges can also change after prosecutor review. For formal charges, filings, bond conditions, hearings, and dispositions, use Wisconsin Circuit Court Access or contact the Walworth County Clerk of Circuit Court rather than relying on the jail roster alone.
Walworth County Records Fallback
When the online inmate roster does not answer the question, the fallback is the Sheriff's Office open-records process. The Walworth County Sheriff's Office Open Records page links to the official request form. The form asks for requester contact information, delivery method, and a detailed description of the records sought. Delivery choices on the form include in person, email, and mail. The records email listed on the form is sheriffrecords@co.walworth.wi.us.
The request form says requests are answered within 10 business days and processed in the order received. Listed fees include $3.00 for accident or crash reports, 50 cents per page for other records, and $15.00 per DVD for photos, body camera, or audio. Cash or check is required when payment applies. The form also says records that can be emailed have zero cost, but not all records can be emailed. Wisconsin open-records access is shaped by Wisconsin Statute 19.31 and Wisconsin Statute 19.35, but juvenile, medical, sealed, investigative, victim, or otherwise restricted records may be withheld or redacted.
For an older booking photo, a booking record that no longer appears online, or a record that needs an official copy, describe the person, approximate arrest or custody date, and the record type as clearly as possible. For court orders, complaints, sentencing entries, or expungement questions, use the Clerk of Circuit Court and WCCA/CCAP. Wisconsin Statute 973.015 governs eligible conviction-record expungement, but it does not automatically erase every sheriff-held arrest or booking record.
Walworth County Visitation Schedule
Walworth County Jail uses video visitation. The official Inmate Visitation page says visits may be scheduled by visitors or requested electronically by inmates using computers, tablets, or smartphones. People without internet access may use the jail lobby for a free video visit during the weekday lobby windows. Visits are limited to 30 minutes. Attorney or professional visit details were not fully published on the official visitation page, so those visits should be confirmed with jail staff before arrival.
| Visit Type | Schedule / Length | Access Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Remote video visit | Scheduled by visitor or requested electronically by inmate | Uses computers, tablets, or smartphones; fee details were not published in the available official text. |
| Free lobby video visit | Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.; 3:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m. | For visitors without internet access; visitor comes to the Walworth County Jail lobby. |
| Visit length | 30 minutes | The official page says visits are restricted to 30-minute time limits. |
| Attorney or professional visit | Not fully published on the official jail pages | Confirm with the jail before arrival. |
Check custody status before scheduling. A person may be released, transferred, temporarily unavailable, or still going through intake. If the person is in state prison, federal custody, or immigration detention, the Walworth County video-visit schedule is not the right rule set.
Contact Walworth County Inmates
The county inmate hub links to telephone, visitation, commissary, mail, and inmate-search resources. The Inmate Telephone page explains that the inmate PIN debit account is separate from the commissary account and can be used for phone calls, tablet usage, and video visits. The telephone page sends users back to commissary deposit information for funding. That means money for calls and video access should be handled through the official jail funding channels, not through a bond or court-payment assumption.
Detailed mail rules were not published in the available official jail text. Do not assume postcard-only mail, scan-and-destroy mail, or a third-party mail-processing vendor without current jail confirmation. Use the person's full legal name, ask whether the booking number is required, and confirm the current format with Walworth County Jail before mailing. Outside clothing and hygiene products are not allowed into the secured facility under the reporting-to-jail materials, and the jail provides or sells basic needs through jail channels.
Commissary and Inmate Funds
The official Inmate Commissary page describes several funding options. Deposits may be made at the Sheriff's Office reverse ATM with cash or credit/debit card, online through ConnectNetwork, or by phone at 1-877-650-4249. Vendor convenience fees may apply, but the county says Walworth County does not add an extra county fee. ConnectNetwork also lists Walworth County Jail services for AdvancePay phone and Trust Fund functions.
Commissary purchases can include hygiene products, snacks, greeting cards, and small game items such as playing cards or dominoes. The county says inmates may order no more than $50 per order and may order twice per week. ICare packages may be purchased through the vendor and are limited to one per month because of cell-storage limits. These deposits are not the same as court bond. Before sending funds, confirm that the person is still in Walworth County Jail and that the correct account type is being used.
Note: Confirm current custody with the jail before sending money, scheduling a visit, or mailing anything time-sensitive.
